Learn how to make delicious ground beef and broccoli. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef (substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, washed and trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Crank up the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until it’s browned and cooked through, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce and oyster sauce, allowing the flavors to meld for a minute.
  5. Add the broccoli florets, stirring well to coat them in the beefy mixture.
  6. Pour in the cornstarch mixture, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens and clings to the beef and broccoli.
  7. Finish with a drizzle of sesame oil, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve hot, perhaps alongside some steamed jasmine rice, just as Mama Lu would have done with her Sunday roasts.
